What we collect when you book or write to us, who else sees it, and how to have it deleted.

Last updated: September 30, 2026

Who holds your information

Bird of Paradise Hotel, cédula jurídica 3-102-759951, Avenida Pastor Díaz, across from the Parque Central de Jacó, Jacó, Puntarenas 61101, Costa Rica.

Contact us about anything on this page at hello@birdofparadisehotel.com.

What we collect

To book a room or a package: your name, email address, phone number, arrival and departure dates, number of guests, any requests you write, and your payment details.

To answer a group enquiry: your name, email address, phone or WhatsApp number, group size, and what you tell us about your plans.

To save a trip plan: your email address and the itinerary you built.

To arrange a transfer or a tour: the above, plus your flight details, pick-up location and destination.

Why we hold it

To take and honor your reservation, to take payment, to answer you, and to keep the guest records Costa Rican law requires a hotel to keep.

If you have stayed with us, we may also email you now and then about a rate or an offer for a future stay. Every one of those emails has a link to unsubscribe, and after that we do not send you another. You can also ask to stop them by writing to hello@birdofparadisehotel.com.

Who else sees it

Cloudbeds holds our reservations and guest records.

Stripe processes card payments made on this website. Your card details go to Stripe directly and are never stored on our servers.

Supabase stores our booking records and saved trip plans, and Vercel hosts and serves this website.

Resend delivers the emails we send you about your stay, such as your booking confirmation, and the occasional offers described above. It holds the list of past guests those offers go to.

Akia is the platform we use to message guests.

Google serves the typefaces this site is set in, on every page, and the map on our contact page. Google receives your IP address when those load.

Tour and transfer operators. We do not operate tours, activities or airport transfers. Every one is run by an independent, licensed operator. If you book one through us we pass that operator what they need to provide it: your name, contact details, the number of people, and for transfers your flight details, pick-up location and destination. The operator is named on the booking form you sign, and their own terms apply from that point. We share nothing with any operator unless you book with them.

Google Ads measures our advertising. When a booking is completed on this website we tell Google that a booking happened, what it was worth, its confirmation code, and a scrambled one-way version of your email address. Your address is scrambled in your own browser and cannot be turned back into an address; Google uses it only to work out whether someone who saw one of our advertisements went on to book, and we receive nothing back about you as a person.

Google Analytics measures how our website is used: which pages are visited, roughly how, and, when a booking is completed, that a booking happened, what it was worth and its confirmation code. It does not receive your name, email address or payment details.

Our booking page on Cloudbeds. The prices Google shows for our hotel link to a booking page that Cloudbeds runs for us at hotels.cloudbeds.com. When you book there, that page tells Google that a booking happened, what it was worth including taxes and extras, and its reservation number. No email address is sent from that page.

We do not sell your information, and beyond the advertising measurement described above we do not share it for advertising.

Information that leaves Costa Rica

Card payments made on this website are processed in the United States. The Stripe account used for them is held by Cork & Boot LLC, a company registered in Florida, trading as Bird of Paradise Hotel. This means your name, contact details and payment information are transferred to and held in the United States.

How long we keep it

We keep booking and payment records for as long as Costa Rican tax and hotel record-keeping rules require, and no longer.

Saved trip plans and enquiry messages are kept while they are still useful for helping you, and deleted when they are not. You can ask us to delete yours at any time.

Your address stays on our list of past guests until you unsubscribe or ask us to take it off.

When a period ends we delete the information or remove anything that identifies you.

Your rights

Under Ley 8968 you may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and withdraw your consent. Withdrawing consent does not undo what we did before you withdrew it, and we may need to keep some records to meet legal obligations.

Write to hello@birdofparadisehotel.com. You may also complain to the Agencia de Protección de Datos de los Habitantes (PRODHAB).

Cookies and storage

This website uses very few cookies, and none of them are used to follow you around other websites or to build an advertising profile of you.

A security cookie. Our hosting provider sets a cookie that distinguishes real visitors from automated traffic. It is required for the site to work safely and cannot be turned off.

Your language choice. When you switch between English and Spanish we save that choice in your browser so the site opens in the same language next time. It stays on your device and is not sent to us.

Fonts and the map. Our page fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and the map on our contact page from Google Maps. When your browser requests them, Google receives your IP address.

Cloudbeds and Stripe may set cookies that are strictly necessary to complete and secure a booking or a payment.

Advertising measurement. We advertise the hotel on Google. Google's measurement tag runs on our pages and sets a cookie that records which advertisement, if any, brought you here, so that we can see whether our advertising is paying for itself. If you arrive without clicking one of our advertisements there is nothing for it to record.

Website analytics. Google Analytics sets a cookie so we can see, in aggregate, how visitors use the site and which pages help or lose a booking. It does not identify you by name.

How you found us. We set our own cookie, separate from Google's, noting which advertisement, search engine or website brought you here the first time, or that you came directly. We attach that note to a booking if you complete one, so the front desk knows which of our marketing is working. It stays with us and is never sent to Google or anyone else.

If you are in Europe or the United Kingdom, this website stores none of the Google measurement described above (advertising or analytics) on your device unless you ask us to allow it, which is why you are not asked to accept anything when you arrive. Our booking page on Cloudbeds does not offer that choice: our Google advertising tag runs there for every visitor.

Changes

If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and the date shown above.
