Terms & Booking Conditions

These conditions govern reservations made directly with Bird of Paradise Hotel in Jacó, Costa Rica.

Last updated: 16 September 2026

1. Who you are contracting with

Your stay is provided by Bird of Paradise Hotel, cédula jurídica 3-102-759951, Avenida Pastor Díaz, across from the Parque Central de Jacó, Jacó, Puntarenas 61101, Costa Rica.

Card payments made on this website are collected by Cork & Boot LLC, a company registered in Florida, United States, trading as Bird of Paradise Hotel. Your card statement may show either name.

Write to us about anything on this page at hello@birdofparadisehotel.com.

The hotel operates at Avenida Pastor Díaz, opposite the Central Park of Jacó, Puntarenas, Costa Rica.

2. Prices and taxes

All prices shown on this site are quoted in United States dollars (USD). Room and package rates are shown before IVA (value added tax). IVA, at the rate configured in our property management system (currently 13%), is added as a separate line before you confirm, and the total shown at checkout is the price you pay. Tour and third-party service prices are set by each operator and confirmed before you book.

Excursions and third-party services may carry an additional service charge, shown before you confirm. Any currency conversion, card or bank fee applied by your issuer is your responsibility.

Card payments are processed in USD by Stripe on behalf of the hotel. Card details are entered on Stripe’s own secure form and the hotel never sees or stores your full card number.

3. Deposits, payment and balance

Room-only reservations require a deposit equal to the first night, at the price shown, at the time of booking. The balance is charged to the same card 5 days before arrival (at 12:00 AM Costa Rica time). If that charge cannot be taken, we email you a secure link to pay it, and any balance still unpaid is settled at the front desk on arrival.

Package reservations require 50% of the total as a deposit. The balance is charged to the same card 45 days before arrival, under the same terms.

If a balance is not settled by its due date the hotel may release the reservation.

Payments made on this website are by card, through Stripe. At the hotel you can pay by card or in cash.

4. Cancellation, changes and no-show

Flexible rates can be canceled free of charge until 12:00 AM Costa Rica time 5 days before arrival. For stays arriving between December 1 and April 30, and for stays of seven nights or more, the deadline is 15 days before arrival. The exact date for your booking is shown before you pay and in your confirmation.

Cancel before that deadline and everything you have paid is refunded in full, with no administrative fee. Cancel after it and what you have paid is not refunded, and nothing more is charged. The remaining balance is charged to your card 5 days before arrival.

Non-refundable rates, including promotional codes that carry that condition, are charged in full when you book and are not refunded if you cancel or do not arrive. The rate's condition is shown before you pay.

Packages and custom trips: the same rule as flexible rates, with the deadline 45 days before arrival.

Refunds are returned to the card used to book. They usually appear on a statement within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank.

If you do not arrive, the amount charged is the amount set out in the cancellation terms of the rate you booked, shown to you before you paid. If you leave earlier than booked, the nights you reserved are not refunded.

The hotel may offer a room credit instead of a refund in these cases. That is at the hotel’s discretion and decided case by case.

5. Arrival, departure and identification

Check-in is from 4 PM and check-out is by 11 AM. Early arrival is subject to availability.

Late check-out is subject to availability and is charged at 50% of that day’s room rate, plus tax. Ask reception rather than assuming it is available.

A government-issued photo identification is required at check-in for each adult guest, and the hotel records guest details as required by Costa Rican law.

The minimum age to hold a reservation and to check in is 21. Guests under 21 must be accompanied by an adult of 21 or over who checks in.

6. Children and extra guests

Occupancy is limited to the number of guests stated on the reservation. Extra guests must be declared in advance and are charged per night. The amount depends on the rate plan and the dates of your stay, and is shown to you before you confirm.

The hotel has two cribs in total, for children under two years old, subject to availability across overlapping stays, for a small charge confirmed when you book.

Rollaway cots are available for children only. They are narrow and are not suitable for an adult.

On room-only stays, infants under one year and children aged six and under stay free in the room using the existing beds.

Packages and all-inclusive rates are different. The activities included in them are run by independent operators, whose age limits and prices vary from one activity to another. Some do not accept children at all. The rules that apply to your package are confirmed before you book.

7. If the hotel cannot honor a booking

If we cannot give you the room you booked because of something on our side, we refund in full what you have paid. This has never happened.

We will also help you find somewhere else to stay, though any booking you make with another hotel is between you and them.

8. Packages and third-party tours

Package contents, minimum nights and included services are those shown at the time of booking. Unused package elements have no cash value and are not refundable unless canceled by the hotel or the operator.

Tours, transfers and adventure activities are operated by independent, licensed third parties. The hotel acts as an intermediary only. Each operator's own terms, waivers, insurance and safety rules apply, and activities may be changed or canceled for weather or safety reasons.

Each operator's own terms, waivers and insurance apply to the service they provide, and the operator is named on the booking form you sign. If something goes wrong, tell us and we will help you take it up with them.

9. Groups and full buyouts

Reservations of five rooms or more are arranged with us directly rather than booked room by room, so we can hold the rooms together and plan the stay.

Groups of roughly 20 guests or more, or needing 13 rooms or more, are arranged as a full buyout of the property.

Group stays and buyouts are handled under a separate written agreement. Its deposit schedule, cancellation terms, rooming-list deadline and any damage deposit are set out in that agreement and confirmed in writing before you pay anything.

10. Conduct, damage and hotel rules

Guests are responsible for damage caused to the property. Report accidental damage to Reception promptly. Damage or missing items discovered at check-out that were not reported are charged.

Quiet hours are 11 PM to 7 AM.

Smoking is not permitted in the rooms or anywhere on the grounds, under Costa Rican General Law No. 9028. Smoke-damaged or burned items are charged and a smoke-removal fee may be applied. Staff can direct you to the nearest designated smoking area.

Every overnight guest is registered and given a wristband at check-in, to be worn throughout the stay. Visitors are welcome once they have registered at the front desk with valid identification. Occupancy may not exceed the number of guests on the reservation.

Children are the responsibility of the adults traveling with them and must not be left unattended in the room, at the pool, or anywhere else on the property.

If a room key is lost, the cost of replacing the lock is charged. Please leave your key with Reception when you go out.

The minimum check-in age is 21. Pets are not permitted.

11. Distance selling and right of withdrawal

Bookings made through this website are distance contracts. The cancellation terms of the rate you choose apply, and they are set out in section 4 above. Nothing in these conditions removes any right Costa Rican consumer law gives you.

12. Complaints

Please raise any issue with reception during your stay so it can be resolved immediately. Written complaints go to reservations@birdofparadisehotel.com or WhatsApp +506 8705-7783, and receive a reply within 24 hours.

If we cannot resolve a complaint, you may take it to the Costa Rican consumer protection authorities at the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC).

13. Governing law

These conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of Costa Rica, and the courts competent under that law will hear any dispute.
